Research Interests
My present research concentrates on systemic autoimmune diseases, which are characterized by a loss of tolerance to self in the form of ubiquitously expressed antigens. I am working on a project that would test the hypothesis that prolidase deficiency is a risk factor for SLE. The second project involves the genetics of lupus in a large cohort of families, all of which contain more that one patient with lupus. In particular, we are exploring SLE families in which SLE is manifested by thrombocytopenia, a marker of severe disease. Also worked on knocking out genes in the c. elegans genome using deletion mutagenesis techniques and elucidating the molecular role of the protein Tensin in cytoskeletal function. Earlier worked on the cloning and characterization of the human phosphotransferase gene.

Joined OMRF Scientific Staff in 2000.
