Technology Transfer Material Transfer & Invention Disclosure Available Technologies for Licensing

Melissa J. Alcorn Patent Associate Melissa Alcorn joined the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) in May 2005. Dr. Alcorn is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the Oklahoma State Bar. Dr. Alcorn acts as a patent attorney in the TTO with a primary responsibility of patent portfolio management at all stages from invention disclosure to licensing and marketing of intellectual property. She works closely with OMRF scientists to protect the foundation’s intellectual property and to facilitate material transfer and research agreements. Dr. Alcorn earned her J.D. from the University of Oklahoma, College of Law. Dr. Alcorn was the Articles Editor for the 2004-2005 Oklahoma Law Review and published her law review article in the area of biotechnology patent law. Her legal education focused on areas of intellectual property, administrative, and constitutional law. Dr. Alcorn earned a B.A. (chemistry major) from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Her dissertation research, focusing on the signal transduction events associated with inflammatory responses to adenovirus infection, was performed at OMRF under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Coggeshall. She is a member of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg American Inn of Court, the Association for University Technology Managers, the Licensing Executives’ Society, and the Wichita Mountain Climbers Coalition. She is a rock climber, a backpacker, and an alpinist. She brings that determination, creativity, and passion to her position in the TTO.
